Central Spain – Gredos mountains

The Sierra de Gredos mountains (featured in Trail magazine in June 2004), still as yet an unspoilt wild area, form part of the Sistema Central and are ideal for those interested in nature, botany, geology and geography, whether for enjoyment or a field trip. Frederic Grunfeld, in his book "Wild Spain", says "to my mind there are no more dramatic mountains in Spain than the Sierra de Gredos". The Parque Regional de la Sierra de Gredos (Gredos Regional Park) covers some 86,236 hectares (213,098 acres) and is a natural paradise. If you are looking for the real Spain and not a villa with pool on the Costas then this is the place for you!
